Proving our metal with PDAC. Look who’s exhibiting again!

Darren Sperling • February 20, 2025

Pre-engineered steel buildings have set the gold standard for industrial facilities dedicated to mineral prospecting and mining operations. PDAC’s premier trade show uncovers the hidden gems with opportunities to learn about the sector and locate new business partnerships.

Participating in industry trade shows is an important part of any marketing plan. For Summit Steel Buildings, the Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada’s (PDAC) annual convention is an absolute must. We’ve been a member of PDAC since the company’s founding and have been exhibiting for the last six years. Our team always looks forward to being involved with the event each year. As the world’s premier mineral exploration and mining exposition, it gives our leadership team the opportunity to stay on top of the latest sector developments while strengthening relationships with clients and partners.

All the world’s biggest and most prominent companies in mining and prospecting

By The annual PDAC Convention brings together 27,000 attendees from over 135 countries for its educational programming, networking events, business opportunities and fun. Since the event began in 1932, the convention has grown in size, stature and influence. Today, it’s the top choice for the world’s mineral industry and hosts more than 1,100 exhibitors and 700 presenters. Summit Steel Buildings is proud to be one of them!

The conference also helps to shine a spotlight on Canada’s unique role in global minerals, metals and energy. The full program of keynote speakers, presentations, investors’ forums and immersive learning encourages new ideas and discussion around burgeoning critical minerals investments and sustainable mining practices.

As Summit Steel Buildings prepares to exhibit at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre in Toronto (be sure to look for us at booth #7229N in the North Building), here’s what we’re doing and what’s getting us excited:

1. Our most anticipated speaker sessions

  • Commodity Outlook with Mike Henry, CEO of BHP, on Sunday, March 2, starting at 10:30 am: A 2050 population nearing 10 billion, increasingly urbanised, seeking higher standards of living and embarking on the energy transition, will need a lot more metals and minerals. What will it take to get where we want to go?

  • Mining Industry Outlook with Eric Sprott on Monday, March 3 at 9:00 am as he describes current issues and opportunities in Canadian mining.

2. Showing off our virtual reality (VR) technology

A fun part of trade shows is actually getting to see and put your hands on the massive mining equipment companies are using in the field. Technology is constantly improving, and Summit Steel Buildings is also continually evolving our tools. We’re bringing our engineering VR tech back to this year’s show.

People sometimes act like giggling school children when they put on the immersive goggles for the first time and start exploring our building simulation. They get to walk through one of our buildings before it’s actually built. Some people have tried VR games before, but they’re not even close to this.

3.  Trade shows are more than just presentations and vendor booths

All work and no play is never good… Fortunately, the fine organizers at PDAC always create opportunities to have some fun and fuel up. Who can turn down a free lunch or a happy hour after being on your feet all day? As Frank Melo says, “PDAC is a great opportunity to connect with industry professionals, both in a formal and informal setting.”

Check out all the social and networking events at this year's trade show.

One event stands out to our team. After four days of intense networking, PDAC ends with their Canada Night Finale. Everyone moves over to the Fairmont Royal York Hotel at 7:00 pm to enjoy food and drink, a live band and all the pub games (including billiards, ping pong, foosball and air hockey) any good Canadian can handle. Darren Sperling and Summit Steel Buildings’ marketing director, Paul Mitchell, maintain a legendary, and very competitive, rivalry at playing pool.

Trade shows are only what you make of them

The more you get involved, the more people you meet, the more enjoyable and productive they are. With a large slate of presentations, networking events and a huge number of exhibitors and attendees, the PDAC Conference is an important experience for the Summit Steel Buildings team – one that we cherish and excitedly anticipate each year.

We hope you see you there! Drop by our exhibitor booth (#7229N in the North Building of the Metro Toronto Convention Centre) and we’ll buy you a coffee as we learn more about you and your business.
