Building case study: Alberni Power & Marine
Get hooked on steel buildings designed for the marine industry.
Fishing for watercraft sales, storage and repairs will land you a sizable deal from Alberni Power & Marine and their new metal storage and wash bay buildings.
In the beautiful surroundings of British Columbia with its abundant Pacific Ocean fish stocks and world-renowned sportfishing, it comes as no surprise that marine activity and boating are vital industries for the area. At its heart is
Alberni Power & Marine, part of Rod’s Power & Marine group of companies. Stephan and Rose Zilliken founded this company over 30 years ago. Together they continue to focus on boat and engine sales, repairs and storage, expanding their facilities over the years to increase boat storage, maintenance and repair services and showroom floor space. In their latest expansion, Alberni Power & Marine contracted Summit Steel Buildings to build an additional boat storage facility as well as a separate wash bay building. Work began in July of 2022 and has been progressing since.

Alberni Power and Marine offers one of the largest selections of new and pre-owned boats for sale in Vancouver Island. Their inventory includes a wide range of vessels in both fiberglass and aluminum from popular brands like Osprey, Thunder Jet, Crestliner and more. The retail inventory also covers marine propulsion systems from Mercury Marine, Yamaha, and others.
The company offers a full-service repair facility for vessels, outboards and sterndrives, serving boat enthusiasts and professions in Vancouver, Victoria, Port Alberni, Nanaimo, Long Beach and Parksville. Port Alberni is centrally located within the west side of Vancouver Island, bordered by the Beaufort Mountains and the Pacific Ocean. As the region’s largest city and commercial hub with a population of 31,000, Port Alberni has historically been known for its sawmills and forest industry and, of course, fishing. For good reason, Port Alberni is known as the “Salmon Capital of the World”.
The region’s sustainable natural resources serve as its economic backbone. Local waters are home to plentiful stocks of several species of wild pacific salmon, cod, halibut as well as various shellfish species, including clams, oysters, mussels and crabs. Commercial use of these wild fisheries is supplemented with aquaculture farms in certain locations of the region.
Until the recent facility addition, Alberni Power and Marine relied on a four-bay service facility that accommodated boats up to 40 feet. The new building will increase the scale and size of sea-craft their expert and experienced technicians can service with the latest technology and equipment. No matter what type of fishing boat clients want to buy in the province, Alberni Power and Marine is the most suitable supplier. Their expertise in dealing with boats and boat motors stems from their years of experience perfecting the offshore adventures to their high-hour watercraft users.
